04 Interviews and Observations

We individually interviewed 8 seniors in order to learn about their habits and preferences relating to music preferences. We used the following list of guidelines and questions to lead our interviews. Below you can read the individual results from the interviews.

  • Type of music, what is the feel of it. How can our product create that feeling.

  • Learn about their relationship to music and how they access it. What do they do when they listen to music, who are they listening to it with.

  • What other things are in their house, what do they surround themselves with. Take photos if we can.

  • Make this a conversation, don’t mention you are designing a device but just that you are interested in learning about how they listen to music—which is true.

Questions to start with:

  • What kind of music do you listen to?

  • What kind of music player do you use?

  • What do you like about it?

  • What don’t you like about it?

  • Where you do find out about new music?

  • Do you listen by yourself or play music when lots of people are in the house?

  • Where in house do you normally listen to music?

  • What media you normally use? CDs, records, tapes.
