Water Street Coffee Joint is a cafe in Kalamazoo, Michigan that sells coffee and tea alongside food, gelato, and brewing equipment. They have two store locations and were interested in opening an online store to attract new business and sell to loyal customers who have moved outside the area. The site also needed to let wholesalers place orders with varying discount levels.
Along with selling products a focus on coffee education plays a strong role. There are sections about the history of coffee, the process from berry to cup, learning about regional varieties, and how to brew the perfect cup. Water Street wants to convert coffee drinkers into coffee connoisseurs.
The site is built with web standards using XHTML for structure, CSS for layout, and PHP on the backend. The product catalog and store administration tools are managed through ShopSite which was customized to handle wholesaler accounts.
